Members of Rowena Lodge No. 3180 are proud to have made a donation to the BEACH Appeal, run by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. This appeal is helping transform healthcare facilities for patients and families across Dorset, ensuring that local hospitals continue to provide care with compassion, dignity, and excellence.
The donation was part of a combined gift of £12,692.00 from Masonic Lodges across the South West.

About the UHD Charity BEACH Appeal
The BEACH Appeal is one of the biggest fundraising initiatives ever launched by the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. Its goal is to raise funds for “above and beyond” improvements at the new BEACH Building at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
The name BEACH stands for Birth, Emergency and Critical Care and Children’s Health, reflecting the departments that will benefit from the project.
Funds raised through the appeal help provide items that NHS budgets cannot always cover, such as:
A state-of-the-art CT scanner to speed up diagnosis and treatment
Wellbeing gardens for patients, families, and staff
Child-friendly play areas and artwork in children’s departments
Improved facilities in maternity, emergency, and critical care units
These improvements are designed to make hospitals not just places of treatment, but places of comfort and healing for the entire community.
Why Local Charity Matters
Hospitals serve everyone. Every family in Dorset has been touched by hospital care in some way—whether welcoming a new baby, supporting a loved one in recovery, or receiving emergency treatment.
The BEACH Appeal reflects the power of community generosity. Donations from individuals, businesses, and community groups help create better environments for patients and NHS staff alike, improving care across the region.
When local organisations step forward to help local hospitals, the impact is felt for generations.
Freemasonry and Community Support
Freemasonry has a long tradition of charity and community service. Lodges across the UK quietly support local causes—hospitals, hospices, youth groups, food banks, and community projects—because Freemasonry teaches values of compassion, integrity, and service to others.
Rowena Lodge No. 3180’s donation to the UHD Charity BEACH Appeal is part of this wider tradition. Freemasons believe that helping neighbours, strengthening communities, and supporting healthcare services are practical ways of living their principles.
Many Masonic lodges regularly work with local charities, raising funds through events, raffles, and voluntary contributions. These efforts often go unnoticed, but they make a meaningful difference to local people.
A Shared Commitment to the Future
By supporting the BEACH Appeal, Rowena Lodge No. 3180 is helping ensure that hospitals in Dorset remain places of healing, comfort, and hope.
This donation reflects a shared commitment:
Supporting local healthcare
Strengthening the community
Living the values of charity and service
Together, charities like University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity and organisations like Rowena Lodge No. 3180 demonstrate what can be achieved when communities work hand-in-hand for the common good.
